We own and operate a beachfront resort in Tofino BC which provides guests with exceptional value, connects with our local community and endeavours to minimize its impact on the planet.
Why did you start your business?
To offer a place where people can connect: to themselves, to each other and to the planet. The connection to the spectacular beauty of Tofino and being able to share it with visitors from around the world.
Why Tofino?
Tofino is simply one of the most spectacular places on the planet. We have been reaching out to connect with local residents who often feel ignored by the tourist-focused resorts. They are important to us because we share this land with them, and they are our employees and they support our business with referrals.
Best secret or least known fact about Tofino?
The incredible depth of skills and creativity of the local residents and the vibrancy of the local community. It’s amazing how the town can maintain its unique feel and appeal while serving huge numbers of visitors.
What’s a little known fact about you or your business?
I have a daughter called Faith, we used to own a store called Hope and I do a bunch of work for Charity!!
Why is local important to you?
If we are not connected to our neighbours we are disconnected from ourselves. Our community is the source of employees and local referrals. We support other local businesses by partnering to offer packages of services, we refer guests to them, we purchase many goods/services locally and we support local non profit events.
What innovation are you most proud of?
Dramatic reductions in water and energy use in our first year of operations; opening our pool to local residents (social sustainability); and switching to local, organic, package free toiletries in our rooms.
